Share the Gift

I’ve always loved to write. As a child, I would write songs or short stories with the creativity God has blessed me with in order to bless others. I believe God gives each of us certain gifts to use in order to bless Him and others, and ever since I became a follower of Christ I have had a deep desire to share the gospel with others through writing. There is something so freeing about writing. Maybe it’s because it gives me the opportunity to share what is on my heart without knowing how to put it into words. Perhaps it’s the way writing can be an escape to from all the craziness that the world offers, by getting into a quiet place and just pouring my thoughts onto paper. When I think of how certain writing styles can be more effective than others, I begin to wonder if my writing style makes sense to others. I’m often very critical of my own writing because I want others to understand what I’m trying to say without having to re-explain myself. Nevertheless, if God has given me the gift of writing in order to inspire others, it ought to make sense to someone out there who is reading.

When I think about how God blesses us with certain gifts in order to bless others, I often wonder what He’s up too behind the scenes. I write because God tells me to write something, however, that doesn’t mean I know the reason behind it. I know that with God, we ought to obey what He asks of us because, in the end, we know that obedience brings blessing, but what kind of blessing? I often wonder “Lord, how will this blog be a blessing to others? Who will this next blog post inspire or help?” Someday, I’m not even sure if it will be a blessing to others, I simply just write down what it on my heart and trust that it will be a help to someone out there.

If I think about how God brought me out of a dark season in my life, only to find out that me writing about my struggle with an eating disorder could potentially help someone else, all I can do His praise Him. Praise Him for delivering me, and praise Him for giving me the chance to give someone else the hope they need. In daily devotional called “my daily Journey with Christ”, there was a sentence that really stuck out to me; it says “ God not only delivers his people from something to something but for something.” Isn’t that pretty awesome? God doesn’t just help us and heal us, but He actually does it for a specific purpose. Perhaps to tell someone that everything is going to be okay. Maybe it’s to let someone know that although they walk through the shadow of death, they can fear no evil…for the Lord is with them. How amazing and awesome that is to know.

The greatest blessing I could ever receive out of writing is the fullness of Christ in me. My mission in life is not to impress or sway people into reading what I have to offer, but rather it is to encourage and lift up the people around me who desperately need the Lord and His gift of salvation. God does not bless us spiritually or materially in order for us to live a comfortable, easy life, but rather to share with others the love Jesus shares with us. He has blessed us beyond belief, it’s our turn to do the same.

If you are someone who has been blessed with one of the Lord’s gifts and are unsure of how it will impact others, may I encourage you to pray this simple prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for giving me this gift I could have never obtained or reached on my own. May you help me to develop these gifts to their utmost and help me to use them in expanding Your kingdom. I praise You and thank You for all that you’ve given me in order to bless others. I ask this in Jesus name, Amen.
