Our Assignment

When God created man, He handed each of us an assignment to complete. As a result, we are workers for the Lord. We each play a very important role in God’s divine plans and purposes, and it is our responsibility to seek out the best options when we are unsure of how to go about something.

Over the past week, I’ve been struggling with the idea of “not knowing what to do” because, for many years, I have learned how to be self-sufficient. However, being a Christian requires a humble response to the Lord by saying “Lord, I don’t know what to do here. Please show me.” When God see’s us in a weak spot, He will come forth with an eagerness to help us in our difficulties. After all, He knows we can’t do anything on our own without struggling.

When I’m unsure of what to do next, I often ask for help from someone with more experience. Usually, I’ll end up with an answer I would have never been able to come up with on my own. Isn’t this why God sent His Son Jesus to walk the earth, suffer from pain, and still have victory in the end? God knows that we need a Helper, in everything that we do. Asking questions, no matter how silly they may seem, is always better than assuming we know what’s best.

There will always be someone more knowledgeable, more educated, more experienced. There is a reason for that. We can learn from those who have walked through similar situations as us and gather some of their wisdom. Certain skills take longer to develop, and not everything is learned overnight. But once we realize that we need help with something, and have sought out the right resources, we begin to see progress being made.

In the book of Hebrews, we see a lengthy list of people who have gone before us and ran their race of faith. Although these stories are very old and historic, we can still draw some wisdom from each of their examples. I often view Sarah in the bible (not just because we have the same name), who developed such a strong faith in believing that one day she conceive a child.

Hebrews 11:11 NKJV

By faith Sarah herself also received strength to conceive seed, and she bore a child when she was past the age, because she judged Him faithful who had promised.

It amazes me how much patience these people had, especially back in the day where there was no such thing as instant messaging. Every day, I find myself wanting to obtain something immediately, even though I know it takes time, effort, and lot’s of prayer to develop.

As a believer, it is my calling to rely on Jesus to help me in every situation no matter how I feel. When I am impatient, I ask the Lord to give me patience. When I feel down, I pray “Lord, just help me to sense Your presence.” I must always be mindful of the fact that God knows more than I do, better than I do, and I just have to trust Him.

What assignment has God given you? What kind of progress have you made since He has given you the task? Were there moments where you felt inadequate to complete the task given to you? How did you overcome those negative feelings?

  1. I struggle with leaving things in God’s hands. Then I find myself frustrated and upset! I then realize that I need to stop and leave it in His hands and He gets me through
