Today as I sat at the kitchen table trying to wrap my head around the incident that left 9+ people dead and 16+ injured, I couldn’t quite fathom how someone could just wake up one morning and say “I think I’m going to run over some people today.” This wasn’t the first time someone had driven into a crowd of pedestrians, and yet it still made the news headlines and left people feeling uneasy, petrified, and uncertain about their future.
One thing I needed to remind myself after hearing something like this that God still sits on the throne. One might disagree with me and say “If God is real, then why would He allow things like this to happen?”
The Truth is, we will never be able to understand everything that happens as long as are on this earth. If we knew the reason behind everything that happened, we would have no use for having faith in God. There would be no point to our faith if we knew all of the details behind His divine plan and purposes.
But that’s the beauty about faith. It’s anchored to the One who promises us that there is hope for the ones who call on Him. Jesus.
I once had someone say to me “Sara, your faith in the Lord is nothing to fool with.” In other words, they were trying to tell me that having faith means having reverence and fear for God. Trusting in His purposes.
Faith isn’t just something we need during tragic events, we still need faith in the Lord everyday to guide us and lead us into the will of God.
Romans 8:28 says:
And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
Without my faith in God, I seriously don’t know what I would do. There have been so many times in my life where I just could not see the “good” that can come out of something, and yet somehow God was able to use those “things” in order to show me that He is worthy of our praise.
We may not understand, agree, or even bare the idea of something, but when it’s all said and done we have a choice to make. To have faith in the Lord for our future, or risk our future by having faith in ourselves.
My prayer is that you choose to have faith in the Lord, because that is His desire for you.
