For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy; giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light. He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins. Colossians 1
How has your walk with the Lord been?
Have you been fruitful in your work, and fully pleasing to Him in His sight?
Some might say, “Oh yes, my walk with God is totally fine. There’s nothing I need to change about how I live.” Others might say that they need some spiritual awakening, and they ask the Lord for help and for guidance.
No matter what stage you are at in your walk with God, there’s always room for growth and improvement.
In the first chapter of Colossians 1, Paul expresses His desire for us to increase in the knowledge of God. He wants us to continue to learn more about God’s character, but most most importantly, he wants us to walk in God’s will.
How do we know if we are walking in God’s will?
First, we need to ask the Lord for wisdom and discernment.
The world likes to confuse people of what is right and what is not, but we needn’t be discouraged by the world says. Go to the bible, the source of all truth, and you’ll find the answers you need to accomplish God’s plan for your life.
I can easily see why people can get confused about what to do with their lives. They go to sources that are totally unaligned with God’s Word, and search for deeper meaning and purpose for their lives. I view this as an identity crisis, when we are unsure of who we are, why we’re here, and what we are to do with this gift called life.
A perfect example is someone who sets out on a mission to go and “find themselves” by packing their bags and leaving home, only to discover that they’re identity cannot be found unless it is placed in the Lord.
Now there’s nothing wrong with leaving the country to do what God has called us to do, in fact, that takes faith, courage and obedience to do so. However, the Lord doesn’t play games when it comes to our relationship with Him. He wants to meet us where we are and doesn’t require us to pack our bags and go on a complete search and rescue for Him, remember, He rescued us.
Once we recognize who we are in Christ, we start to develop a desire to know Him and His plans for our lives.
The moment I gave my heart to the Lord, I knew that my life would be changed forever. Not because of what I did for Him , but because of what He did for me.
He rescued me from going down the wrong path, that leads to destruction. He conquered the enemy’s plot to kill me while I was very sick and weak. He strengthened me, and helped me to overcome my biggest fear-gaining weight.
He showed me how meaningless and insignificant it is to place my focus on earthy things, like the way my body should look according to what society expects. He created me for more, He created you for more, He created us for more!
If it were not for God and His incredible love for you and I, we wouldn’t have a clue as to why we were made and put on this earth. We are His tools, and He is the power. He gives us everything we need to fulfill His eternal purposes in and throughout our lives.
Now that we are are aware that we are here for His purposes, what are we going to do about it?
Are we going to ask Him for wisdom and discernment, or are we going to continue to ignore His calling and do what we choose to do ?
I ask myself this question daily, sometimes more than once, because it’s a good way to examine whether or not if I’m walking in accordance to God’s will for my life.
Father, we are thankful that when we ask for Your wisdom and discernment, You will give it to us. We thank you God, for giving us the tools and resources we need to accomplish your will. Teach us Lord, what walking in Your will looks like. Help us to develop a strong fear and reverence for you, so that nothing will be able to shake us or tempt us from walking outside of your will. We know how dangerous it can be to walk outside of your will, so I pray that you would lead us on the right path and give us the wisdom we need to do so. Amen.
