“In an effort to capture peace, people search many different avenues, such as mediation, yoga, healthy eating, and even exercise. The truth is though, that there is only one way to achieve true peace, the peace that passes all understanding. (Philippians 4:7) It’s through God. When you have a personal relationship with our Lord and Saviour, eternal peace is possible. And trust me, it’s a reassurance unlike any other!” – Hope Reidt
This morning when I read this quote in an article written by Hope Reidt, I couldn’t help but think of a time where I was bound in chains, controlled by exercise and eating healthy, like super healthy, to a point where it became very unhealthy and I would starve myself of the nutrients it needed. This was all in hopes of finding peace within myself, but it actually did the exact opposite.
I am not the only one who has encountered stressful situations, and I’m sure that there are some out there who have searched the world for answers, solutions, routines, lifestyle changes, and so forth, only to find out that true peace does not come from the world.
We live in a world, where peace and the world itself clash with one another. The world wants us all to live in “distract mode”, whether it be our mobile devices, making a bunch of commitments in order to “stay busy”, until eventually we reach a point of burnout.
As a student, I know exactly what it’s like to feel burnt out. It’s a horrible feeling, when you know you have a huge list of tasks to complete by a certain time, but literally cannot find the energy to do it all.
That’s when I lean on the Lord, to help me get through it.
He didn’t create us to experience stress and burnout, He came so that in times where we do experience hard times, we know where to go to find peace.
In an effort to avoid stress all together, our society gives us a wide variety of options. Popping pills, drinking in excess, finding sexual pleasure, you fill in the blank.
As a believer, when I’m faced with a difficult circumstance, I know that I only have two options to chose from. I can either thank God, for all that He has done, or I can curse God, and get bitter about what’s happening in my life. How simple is this!
I chose to thank God everyday for all that He has blessed me with, because He has shown me the path that leads to life (Psalm 16:11). In a time where I was very confused and lost, He lead me back onto His path, the only way I can experience His peace.
